36 hours in IBIZA with LEGENDS
“IBIZA?……YEAH, I’LL CLEAR MY DIARY!”
A fantastic 36 hours in Ibiza with Legends shooting stills for the promo for the recently announced LEGENDS IBIZA event in June.
Josh Denzel will front the 3-day tournament, including true legends from the sporting world. “Figo, Roberto Carlos, Pires, Veron, Pirlo, Casillas and many more Legends, at an iconic, immersive VIP-only week of A-list Football, Padel & Golf, along with exclusive VIP parties on The White Isle!”
We spent one day shooting with Josh around the island at the various locations where the events will take place. Working in between the film crew, I was able to snatch moments and situations off the cuff to get some stills banked for promotional use. Shooting abroad where the skies are blue and the sun is clean is always a pleasure for a photographer who, like myself, relies heavily on working with natural light.
You can see from the full-length promotional film below that this crew aren’t messing around, a stunning production and an absolute joy to be surrounded by so much talent. I always say that producing great work is always important but when it’s with such a humble and down-to-earth crew it just makes it all the more rewarding. I felt blessed to enjoy 36 hours with these guys and girls and enjoyed the dinner and drinks as much as I did the shoot, blessed.
I had to fly in from another job so I missed the first day and a direct flight, but flew via Barcelona the next day, then straight out to Ibiza on the redeye to connect with the crew. Straight from the airport to the first location the football stadium of SCR Pena Deportiva. The Estadio Municipal de Santa Eulària des Riu is where the football match is going to be played in June and it was charming. It was hard to believe that come June there would be some of the greatest players that the game has seen gracing the turf.

From the stadium, we went straight to the only golf course in Ibiza to continue the shoot. We had the local pro with us to show Josh and the team around the course, Josh even got to hit a few shots on the picturesque postcard holes. It’s always difficult to be around football or golf without kicking the ball or taking a few shots but I resisted and kept the focus on what I was being paid to do! We also shot a local member of the club who was born in a house on the 4th hole and has been around the club for the last 55 years. A great character who couldn’t speak a word of English but is very much looking forward to welcoming his Real Madrid heroes to his club come June!

Padel is Europe’s fastest growing sport and so many of the world’s top sporting stars past and present now play. It makes up the third discipline of the 3-day Ryder Cup style event and the venue for the Padel tournament is the brilliant Bubble Club right in the heart of San Antonio.

We wrapped the day with a fantastic team dinner- cocktails were had and we laughed a lot. The images are one thing, but the memories are another. Experiences like these few days are what I truly cherish and the doors that photography continues to open for me!
One of the funniest things that happened was when Josh, his manager Stefan and I, got a taxi to the airport. The car pulled up outside the hotel with the music on what I would describe as FULL BLAST, we laughed and got in thinking that the lady driver would turn it down or ask us if it was ok? (tolerable!) she didn’t! We spent 20 minutes in the car with the music absolutely blaring and with her watching a trippy screen on the dash. When we pulled up at the airport people around us were laughing, as the music was LOUD, she didn’t bat an eyelid and thanked us for the fare…only in Ibiza!
